Welcome
to The Old Swan Uppers
The Old Swan Uppers pub and restaurant
lies close to the River Thames in the village of Cookham in
the heart of Royal Berkshire. Formerly the New Inn, it was refurbished
last century, enhancing the old country
pub character.
The pub was named after the ancient activity of "swan upping" or
marking of the swans on the Thames. This began when the
Crown claimed ownership of all mute swans - at a time when swans
were considered an important food source for banquets and feasts!
We may not have swan on the menu today but you can be assured of a wide choice
of superbly prepared dishes and an excellent choice of ales and wines.
A friendly mix of locals and visitors alwalys creates
a warm and lively pub ambience.
Join us for lunch or an evening meal ....
or simply pop in to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a drink.
